College Football's Bottom 25 2025, Week 8
For the first time this season, the poll has a new number one team after Oregon State beat up on Lafayette of the FCS to take their first "Dub" on the season and to leave Massachusetts and Sam Houston as the only two winless schools in the highest level of college football.
Normally, I would leave the two teams with the same record in the same position relative to each other if they both either win or lose. However, last weekend's loss by Sam Houston, by a bigger margin and against a weaker team means that despite having the same 0-7 record, Massachusetts will remain at number two and Sam Houston will skip past them and into the top spot vacated by Oregon State.
There shouldn't be much movement this week, barring a surprise upset win by a 25er, as there is only one Bummer Bowl (Georgia State vs. South Alabama) and only four 25ers on a BYE week, plus two more coming off a BYE.
As always, enjoy the games!!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Sam Houston (0-7) The Fearkats lost a home Bummer Bowl against fellow CUSA mates UTEP, 35-17 on Thursday, moving up two spots to become the new number one. Next up is a BYE before a Halloween showdown at Louisiana Tech.
2) Massachusetts (0-7) The Minute - Men still lost, but at least they played a competitive conference home game against Buffalo, falling 28-21. Next is a trip to Central Michigan.
3) Oregon State (1-7) The Beavers finally break through and get their obligatory FCS win, 45-13 over Lafayette. Next up is a BYE before an old school PAC 12 matchup hosting Washington State, except now it is "Just the PAC 2 of us". They play each other a 2nd time, as well, to end the season.
4) Charlotte (1-6) The 24.5ers got walloped at home by Temple, 49-14. Next is a Friday visit from North Texas.
5) Nevada (1-6) The Wolfcack have now lost 5 straight after their 24-22 loss at New Mexico. Nevada kicked a field goal with over 10 minutes left in the game to get within 2 points, but could not put a drive together for the rest of the game to get a win. Next, Boise State visits on Friday night.
6) Georgia State (1-6) The Panters stayed in the game until late at Georgia Southern, taking a 4 point lead into the 4th quarter before giving up 3 unanswered TDs, falling 41-24. Next is a Thursday night Sun Belt Bummer Bowl hosting South Alabama.
7) Oklahoma State (1-6) The Cowtoys were mauled at home by the Cincinnati (what's a?) Bearcats, 49-17. That is 6 straight losses heading into a game at nationally ranked Texas Tech, who will be sure to be hopping mad coming off their first loss of 2025.
8) Boston College (1-6) The Fleagles lost 38-23 at home against Connecticut. That makes six straight losses heading into next week's showdown at Louisville.
9) Northern Illinois (1-6) The Fusskies lost at Ohio, 48-21. That is six straight losses heading into a Saturday showdown against Ball State..
10) South Alabama (1-6) The Saguars lost a Bummer Bowl on Tuesday at home against Arkansas State, 15-14. Next, a Bummer Bowl on Thursday at Georgia State.
11) Middle Tennessee State (1-5) The Blue Faiders had a BYE week, heading into Wednesday's CUSA date at Delaware.
12) Akron (2-6) The Zips lost a road MAC Bummer Bowl at Ball State, 42-28. Next weekend brings a trip to Western New York to take on Buffalo.
13) Eastern Michigan (2-6) The Beagles took a 44-30 loss at MAC mates Miami (Ohio). Next up, Ohio comes to town.
14) San Jose State (2-5) The Fartans lost their Friday MWC tilt at Utah State, 30-25. Next up is a much needed BYE before Hawai'i visits on November 1st.
15) Louisiana (2-5) The Fadin' Cajuns took a 22-10 home beating from Southern Miss. Next up is a cross border visit to Troy.
16) Tulsa (2-5) The Golden Bore-icane lost a Thursday night showdown at East Carolina, 41-27. Next, Temple comes to town.
17) West Virginia (2-5) The Fountainbeers were on an Orlando vacation instead of playing a football game at UCF. Thus, the 45-13 blowout loss. Next, TCU visits on Saturday.
18) Kent State (2-5) The Golden Flashless hammered UMass 2 weeks ago to drop out and drop right back in this week after being hammered last weekend by Toledo, 45-10. Next, Bowling Green visits with their own possible entry into the B25 on the line.
19) Colorado State (2-5) The Lambs also rejoin off of a loss, 31-19 at home to Hawai'i. Next up is a short cross border trip to Laramie to face Wyoming.
20) Purdue (2-5) The Shotandabeers are back for the first time in 2025 after their 5th straight loss, 19-0 at Northwestern. Rutgers comes to West Lafayette this weekend in another game that might determine the B25 future for both.
21) Wisconsin (2-5) The Sadgers are back in for the first time in ages, it seems, after a 34-0 home stadium whuppin' by national #1 Ohio State. Things get no easier as 3 of their last 5 games are against ranked opponents (with one more, Minnesota, possibly ranked by the time they play the season finale'), the first one being #6 Oregon, who Wisconsin visits this coming Saturday.
22) Arkansas (2-5) This one is almost unfair. The Dazerbacks won their first two games, one over an FCS squad and one over former 25ers Arkansas State. They have lost five straight since, with one blowout loss to Our Lady and four other losses by a grand total of 14 points to 3 ranked SEC teams and to Memphis, who is 6-1 and should be ranked. The last loss was by 3 at home to #3 Texas A&M, 45-42. Maybe something will shake clear in the next two games, first hosting Auburn and then at Mississippi State.
23) Virginia Tech (2-5) The Jokies had a BYE week and will be hosting California on Friday, 10/24.
24) Air Force (2-5) The Falcons did not, in fact, lose to Wyoming 40-38 as predicted. Air Force found their defense and beat the Cowboys 24-21. Next, a BYE week before hosting Army in a Commander In Chief's Trophy game.
25) UTEP (2-5) The Miners took charge and won their CUSA Wednesday Night Special Bummer Bow at B25 #3 Sam Houston, 35-17. Next up is a BYE weekend before a visit to Fifth Third Stadium, the FBS' smallest venue, to take on Kennesaw State on a Tuesday night.
DISHONORABLE MENTION: Kentucky (2-4) and North Carolina (2-4)
Dropped Out: Arkansas State, UAB, Ball State, Georgia Southern and Stanford
