College Football's Bottom 25 Poll, Week 12, 2024

Davis Wade Stadium, home of Mississippi State Football

Florida State has descended to a level unprecedented for their program since the 1973-1975 seasons that proceeded the hiring of the legendary Bobby Bowden as head coach. At 1-9, they do have a winnable game coming up against an FCS opponent after this week's BYE and they could really salvage the season if they can figure out some way to beat Florida in three weeks. We will see if Mike Norvell survives.

One spot above (below) FSU is #1 Kent State, who have a date with winless destiny in their next game after this week when they get to host two-win Akron, but I don't hold out much hope. The Flashless have only been close twice, losing by 2 at home to fellow 25ers Ball State and losing by 6 to St. Francis, who are only  3-6 on the FCS level.

There is only one Bummer Bowl in the offing for this weekend and a whole bunch of BYEs for the 25. As always, enjoy the games!!!

1) Kent State (0-9) The Golden Flashless were shutout at home against Ohio, dropping to  0-9 after a 41-0 wipeout.  A trip to Miami Ohio for a Wednesday night MAC special is next.

2) Florida State (1-9) The Semi-gnomes lost 52-3 at national #10, Our Lady. Have no doubt that I honestly believe FSU could beat almost every one of the other teams in this poll head-to-head, but they do have only one win versus 9 losses, so here they are at #2. Next is a BYE week before Charleston Southern of the FCS comes to town.

3Kennesaw State (1-8) The Fowls #1 lost 43-35 in double overtime at UTEP in a Conference USA Bummer Bowl. Head coach Brian Bohannon was either fired or resigned, but regardless, he will not be coaching the Fowls #1 when Sam Houston visits the NW Atlanta metro this week.

4) Southern Mississippi (1-8) Seven straight losses for the Golden Favres after falling 37-3 at home to Marshall. Next up is a trip to San Marcos to take on Texas State.

5) Purdue (1-8) The Shotandabeers were imbibed at Ohio State, 45-0. Penn State visits West Lafayette next.

6) Mississippi State (2-8) The Dulldogs lost 33-14 at nationally ranked (#7) Tennessee, which is about as good as could have been expected. Next up is a BYE week before hosting another nationally ranked SEC squad, Missouri.

7) UTEP (2-8) The Miners won an AAC Bummer Bowl at home, beating Kennesaw State, 43-35 in double overtime. I watched the end of this game and it was pretty clear that neither team seemed to want to win, but it was entertaining, nonetheless. The Miners get rewarded with a BYE before heading to Knoxville to get Knoxed Out in two weeks at Tennessee.

8) New Mexico State (2-7) The (What’s an?) Aggies lost 41-28 at home to Western Kentucky. Next up is a visit from national #14 Texas A & M. It’s a double whammy, What’s an Aggie(?) festival!

9) Georgia State (2-7) The Panters have lost 6 straight after being pawed and toyed with at James Madison, 38-7. Arkansas State comes to Atlanta next.

10) FAU (2-7) The Fowls #2 lost 49-14 at East Carolina, with ECU QB Katin Houser passing for 343 yards and 5 TDs! Next up, Temple visits for an AAC Bummer Bowl.

11) Utah State (2-7) The Lutes lost by 3 TDs at Washington State of the PAC 12 (2), 49-28. Hawai’i visits next.

12) Temple (2-7) The Fowls #3 were swamped by a green wave at Tulane, 52-6. Next up is a conference Bummer Bowl hosting FAU.

13) UAB (2-7) The Lazy-ers are back to their losing ways, falling 31-23 at home to UConn. Next is a visit to Memphis.

14) Massachusetts (2-7) The Minute-men had a BYE week before 6-2 Liberty comes to town.

15) Akron (2-7) The Zips had a BYE weekend before this Wednesday’s game at Northern Illinois.

16) Stanford (2-7) The Marginal had a BYE before nationally ranked Louisville visits Palo Alto this week.

17) Troy (2-7) The Trojadies also had a BYE week. Next up is a date at Georgia Southern.

18) Air Force (2-7) The Falcons finally won again after 7 straight losses, beating Fresno State, 36-28 on the road. Next is a visit from Oregon State of the Pac 12(2).

19) Wyoming (2-7) The Cowboils #1 also had a BYE week before a game at Colorado State this week. Even though Air Force won and Wyoming didn’t play last weekend, the Cowboils #1 get a better ranking at the same record because they beat the Failcons earlier this season.

20) Nevada (3-8) The Wolfcack played it close at nationally ranked Boise State, eventually falling 28-21. That is 4 straight losses following a 3-4 start leading into this week’s BYE.

21)  Oklahoma State (3-7) The Cowboils #2 were lassoed at TCU, 38-13. Next is a BYE week before Texas Tech visits.

22) Middle Tennessee State (3-7) The Blue Faiders are back in after a 37-17 home loss to Liberty. Next up is a BYE before a home Conference USA Bummer Bowl against New Mexico State.

23) Rice (3-7) The Fowls #4 are back in after a 27-20 loss at Memphis. Next up is a BYE before a Bummer Bowl at UAB.

24) Ball State (3-6) The Marginals are back in after also losing a Tuesday night MAC special, 27-21 at home to Miami Ohio. Next is another Tuesday night MAC tilt at Buffalo.

24) tie San Diego State (3-6) First time in for the Azwrecs this season after a 21-16 home loss to New Mexico. Next is a visit to world's tackiest city to play against UNLV.

25) tie Central Michigan (3-6) The Chipp-ewoks are in for the first time in ’24 after a Tuesday night home loss to Bowling Green, 23-13. Just like Ball State, up next is another Tuesday nightery MAC Special at Toledo.

 25) tie Louisiana Tech (3-6) The Dulldogs lost in OT at home to Jacksonville (the non- Florida one) State, 44-37. Next is a date at Conference USA leaders Western Kentucky.

DISHONORABLE MENTION Arizona (3-6), Auburn (3-6), FIU (3-6), Tulsa (3-6), Charlotte (3-6) and Kentucky (3-6)

Dropped Out:  New Mexico, Kansas
