College Football's Bottom 25 Poll, Week 10, 2024
You knew we would eventually get to the place where there was only one thoroughly defeated team, and here we are. Somehow, Kennesaw State, who looked like one of the worst FBS teams in years, managed to upend previously unbeaten Liberty to notch W number 1 on the season.
This week, Georgia State (the ol' alma mater) joins the poll just as I am going to see them play live for the first time...too bad that their opponent, UConn isn't in their usual place in the poll or it would be a Bummer Bowl, too!
As always, enjoy the games!
1) Kent State (0-8) And then there was one! The
Golden Flashless lost at Western Michigan, 52-21, becoming the only and
last FBS program without a win on the season. Next is a BYE week before Ohio visits.
2) Southern
Mississippi (1-7) The Golden Favres lost 32-15 at James Madison.
Next is a BYE weekend before hosting Marshall.
3) Wyoming
(1-7) The Cowboils lost a home Bummer Bowl to former B25 #6 Utah State, 27-25. Next up is a visit
to DHMers New Mexico for an (almost)
Bummer Bowl.
4) Mississippi State
(1-7) The Dulldogs lost their 7th straight game, 58-25 at Arkansas. Next up is an actual winnable
game, the Most Unlikely Bummer Bowl Game ever as Massachusetts visits Starkville.
5) Troy (1-7)
The Trojadies lost 34-31 at Arkansas
State. Coastal Carolina visits
this coming weekend.
6) Florida State
(1-7) The Semi-gnomes lost their rivalry game at Miami, 36-14. North Carolina
visits Tallahassee next.
7) UTEP (1-7) The Minors followed up
their first win with a 14-10 (almost) Bummer Bowl loss at DHMers Louisiana
Tech. Next is a visit from the Blue Faiders of MTSU for an AAC Bummer Bowl.
8) UAB (1-6)
The Lazy-ers had a BYE week. Tulsa
comes to Birmingham next, a week after winning their way out of the B25.
9) Air Force
(1-6) The Failcons rested last week and now they get to trek to West Point to
face an undefeated Army squad.
10) Purdue
(1-6) The Shotandabeers also got the rest week and now get to host DHMers Northwestern in a Big 10 (18) almost
Bummer Bowl.
11) Kennesaw State (1-6) The Owls got
the most unlikely of first wins, 27-24 against Liberty. Remember,
this team lost to UT Martin of the
FCS by 11 points in their 4th game and Liberty was undefeated! Next up, a trip to take on Western Kentucky. There are 2
potentially winnable games out of the 5 remaining on the Owls schedule, too.
12) FIU (2-6) The Bipolar Panters played tight defense but still lost, 10-7 at home to Sam Houston. Next is a Tuesday night Bummer Bowl against New Mexico State.
13) Rice (2-6) The (now and again) Fowls
#2 lost 17-10 at UConn. Next, Navy
visits, hoping to salve their wounds after being keel-hauled by Our Lady.
14) Middle Tennessee State (2-6) The
Blue Faiders lost on Wednesday at Jacksonville (non-Florida version)
State 42-20. Next, a CUSA Bummer Bowl at UTEP.
15) Temple (2-6) The Fowls #3 lost 56-34
at East Carolina. Next is a
BYE week before heading to N’Awlins to take on Tulane.
16) Kansas (2-6) The Nayhawks played
well but lost the Sunflower Showdown rivalry game at Kansas State, 29-27. Next up is a BYE before taking
on nationally ranked (#11) Iowa State
17) Stanford
(2-6) The Sports Thinker somehow missed the Marginal last week when they were
2-5! Now they are 2-6 and In Like Flynn!
Stanford lost 27-24 at home to Wake
Forest. Next up is a trip to NC State.
18) Utah State (2-6) The Utes won an MWC
Bummer Bowl at Wyoming, 27-25. Next is a BYE week before travelling
to Pullman to face off against Washington
State.
19) Massachusetts (2-6) The Minutemen won
35-7 at home against Wagner of the FCS. Next up is quite possibly
the most unexpected Bummer Bowl of all time at Mississippi State!
20) Akron (2-6) The Zips took down the Eastern
Michigan Chippewas at home, 25-21.
Next up the Bulls of Buffalo come to
town.
21) Georgia State (2-5) The
Panters lost 33-26 at Appalachian State,
propelling one out of the DHM and one into the poll. The Sports Thinker will be
seeing his alma mater in person for the first time as they visit UConn this Friday!
22) FAU (2-5) The Fowls #3 (or is it #4?)
had a BYE before an upcoming Friday night showdown at home against South
(really West) Florida.
23) UCLA (2-5) The Ruins also had a BYE week
before this weekend’s road game at Nebraska.
24) New Mexico State (2-5) The (What’s
an?) Aggies were another BYE weekend team before this week’s Wednesday Bummer
Bowl at FIU.
25) Nevada (3-6) The Wolfcack are one of
those Week Zero, so they have managed to play more games than almost anyobe
else and have still had a BYE week. Last week they lost at Hawai’i 34-13, to join the poll. Next, Colorado State visits Reno.
DISHONORABLE MENTION: New Mexico (3-5), UTSA (3-5), Arizona (3-5),
Oklahoma State (3-5), Central Michigan (3-5), Kentucky (3-5) and Northwestern
(3-5)
Dropped Out: Auburn, Appalachian State, Louisiana Tech, Ball State, Hawai’i, Tulsa and Houston
