College Football's Bottom 25 Poll, Week 13, 2024
Kelly-Shorts Stadium, Home of the Central Michigan Chippewas
Essentially, at this point of the season, we are shuffling the same 10 to 12 three-win teams in and out of the poll each week, depending on who lost, who won and who didn't play. So, we welcome back FIU, Charlotte and Tulsa while we bid adieu to Air Force, Troy, Utah State and Stanford for at least a week. We had another team that won their 3rd game last week but stayed in the poll at #25 by virtue of that win being a 3-point victory in overtime in a Bummer Bowl. Read on to find out who that was and, as always, enjoy the games!!!
1) Kent State (0-10) The Golden Flashless lost 34-7 at Miami Ohio on Wednesday night. Next up is a Tuesday night MAC Bummer Bowl hosting Akron in what is likely the last-gasp chance for Kent State to win in 2024.
2) Southern Mississippi (1-9) Eight
straight losses for the Golden Favres after a 58-3 debacle at Texas
State. This team is simply
terrible. Sun Belt middleweights South Alabama visit this
weekend.
3) Kennesaw State (1-9) The Fowls #1
played respectably, dropping a 23-17 home decision to Sam Houston. The
wins aren’t there, but this team has played better since beating Liberty in their 7th game.
Next is a CUSA Bummer Bowl at home against FIU,
who have dropped back into the poll this week.
4) Purdue (1-9) The Shotandabeers lost
49-10 at home to Penn State, meaning they have suffered two straight weeks of being
pummeled by an average score of 47-5 against the cream of
the Big 10 (18) crop. Purdue has really only been close twice this season,
outside of their lone victory against Indiana
State (aka Larry Bird U) of the FCS. Next up is a regrettable prime-time
Fox Friday night matchup against 4-6 Michigan
State.
5) Florida State (1-9) The Semi-gnomes had
a BYE week. Charleston Southern of the FCS comes to town
this Saturday.
6) New Mexico State (2-8) The (What’s
an?) Aggies took a not unexpected 38-3 beating in the double whammy, What’s an
Aggie(?) festival game at nationally ranked Texas A&M. Next is a CUSA Bummer Bowl at MTSU.
7) Georgia State (2-8) The
Panters lost homecoming 27-20 to the Arkansas State Red Wolves in
front of almost no one in Centre Parc Stadium. That is 7 straight losses. Next
up is a visit to Texas State, who
get to feast on another Sun Belt basement opponent this week.
8) FAU (2-8) The Fowls #2 were so close
but couldn’t prevail, losing their home Bummer Bowl against Temple,
18-15. Next up is another AAC Bummer Bowl against returning entrants Charlotte.
9) UAB (2-8) The Lazy-ers were doused at
Memphis, 53-18. Next up is a Bummer Bowl at home against Rice.
10) Massachusetts (2-8) The Minute-men
lost a heartbreaker in OT, 35-34 at home to Liberty, who seem to have trouble against
25ers, as they are the only team to lose to Kennesaw State and came within a missed Minute-men field goal at
the end of regulation time of losing this one, too. The reward for Massachusetts? A trip to take on
national #12 Georgia. With interim
HC Shane Montgomery leading them, replacing the just-fired HC Don Brown.
11) Akron (2-8) The Zips lost the
midweek game at Northern Illinois, 29-16. Next up is a Tuesday MAC Bummer Bowl at B25 #1 Kent
State.
12) Wyoming (2-8) The Cowboils #1 lost
24-10 at Colorado State. Nationally ranked Boise State heads to
Laramie next.
13) Mississippi State (2-8) The Dulldogs
had a BYE week. Next, they host a 7-3 SEC squad, Missouri.
14) UTEP (2-8) The Minors had a BYE
before heading to the long, skinny state to get Knoxed Out this week at Tennessee.
15) Nevada (3-8) The Wolfcack had a BYE week. Next, Air Force visits in their first week not being in the poll.
16) Ball State (3-7) The Marginals lost
51-48 in OT at Buffalo, causing the school to fire Head Coach Mike
Neu in his 9th season. Interim HC Colin Johnson will lead them
against Bowling Green at home this
week.
17) San Diego State (3-7) The Azwrecs have
now lost 4 straight, the latest being a 41-20 thrashing at UNLV. Next is an (almost) Bummer Bowl at Utah
State.
18) Central Michigan (3-7) The
Chipp-ewoks are now at 5 straight losses after a 37-10 clobbering at Toledo. Next, Western Michigan pays a
Tuesday night visit.
19) FIU (3-7) The Panters #2 played well at Jacksonville (non-Florida version) State, 34-31. Drop back in and immediately get a Bummer Bowl, this week at Kennesaw State.
20) Tulsa (3-7) The Golden Bore-icane took a home 38-31 loss to East Carolina. This week brings a visit to Tampa to take on South (really West) Florida.
21) Charlotte
(3-7) The 24.5ers took a home beating, 59-24 to South (really West) Florida, costing Biff Poggi his head coaching job. Interim HC Tim Brewster is at the helm this week for a Bummer Bowl at FAU.
22) Oklahoma State (3-7) The Cowboils #2 had a BYE week. Texas Tech visits this weekend.
23) Middle Tennessee State (3-7) The
Blue Faiders had a BYE. This week is a home Conference USA Bummer Bowl against New Mexico State.
24) Rice (3-7) The Fowls #4 also had a BYE before this week's Bummer Bowl
at UAB.
25) Temple (3-7)
The Owls won their home Bummer Bowl, 18-15 in overtime over FAU. Then
the school fired head coach Stan Drayton the day after. The Owls will take the
field under interim HC Everett Withers this Friday night at UTSA, as the
only 3-7 team in the poll who won last week.
DISHONORABLE MENTION: Hawai'i (4-7), Air Force (3-7), Troy (3-7),
Stanford (3-7), Utah State (3-7)
